Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a leading cause of hospital admission for pneumonia in children <5 years of age, causing an estimated 100,000 childhood deaths each year [1]. Approximately 97 % of these deaths are estimated to occur in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), many of whom never reach hospital.
